My research paper will focus on the 12th century garden in the Alcathar in Seville. This garden courtyard is a square space intersected by walkways that divide the gardens into four quadrants. This design can also be found in previous Islamic gardens such as at the Alhambra and Madinat al-Zahra. My paper will trace this design through these three gardens starting with the Upper Garden at Madinat al-Zahra, moving to the Alhambra and then to the 12th century garden built by the Almoravids/Almohads. My paper will also explore the use of water in these gardens and in Islamic gardens in general.

My research paper will focus primarily on the animal-shaped fountainheads attributed to Andalusia during the reign of the Islamic rulers, and their origins and purpose. Were they forged in workshops in the area? Given as gifts from other leaders? Repurposed? I want to investigate best russian websites these ideas, and focus on the role these objects play in traditional Islamic decorative motifs.
Voy a escribir mi papel de investigación en este clase sobre la tema de los ornamentos de fuente con la forma animal, que son desde Andalucía durante el reinado de los Musulmanes. Qué era sus propósito? Se hicieron en los talleres en Córdoba? en tierras lejanas? Eran regalos de otros gobernantes? Quiero investigar esta tema y enfocar en la función de estos objetos como un parte de los motivos tradicionales Islámicas.

My research paper will review the Patio del Yeso located in the Alcazar in Seville. This paper will form an extended visual analysis of the Patio del Yeso and how it can be used as an example of a portion of a palace that represents the shift from Almohad architectural styles to Mudejar in medieval Spain.

I will conduct research on the topic of the vegetal motif throughout Islamic art and architecture. I will begin with a discussion of its role in Byzantine-inspired works by the Islamic art tradition, and end my research by analyzing this motif’s culmination in the arabesque art style. As I continue my research, I will draw specific examples from the works that we will be visiting in Spain in order to prove the importance and influence these motifs had over the Islamic world.
